EHEA Full Members

The European Higher Education Area currently has three membership categories: members, consultative members and EHEA partners.

BFUG membership is based on the membership of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The EHEA currently has three categories: Member, Consultative Member and Partner.

The BFUG / EHEA members are 49 countries and the European Commission. At the BFUG Meeting LXXX, held in Strasbourg on April 11th and 12th, 2022, the BFUG members decided to suspend the rights of representation of the Russian Federation and Belarus in the EHEA. The ministers of higher education maintained the suspension in the 2024 Tirana Communiqué.

To become a member of the EHEA, countries have:

  • to be a party to the European Cultural Convention

  • to declare their willingness to pursue and implement the objectives of the Bologna Process in their own systems of higher education
